Winter antifreeze measures for emulsified asphalt equipment
December 7th,2020

Water is one of the most raw materials for emulsified asphalt and is distributed in various parts of the emulsified asphalt equipment. Explain the antifreeze measures one by one according to the parts of the water distribution.

Emulsion-Asphalt-machinery

Water Tank

The water inside the water tank is discharged through the drain valve. Some equipment does not have a drain valve to save equipment cost, and it can only be drained by loosening the flange bolts at the bottom.

Water Pump

The water pump mentioned here includes hot water pump and circulating water pump. This type of water pump generally uses a pipeline pump. There is a sewage outlet at the bottom of the pipeline pump. Pay attention to the sewage outlet at the bottom of the pump.

Emulsion Tank

The emulsion tank generally uses a cone bottom. However, for the safety of the process, the exit is often not placed at the bottom. There will be emulsion (mostly water) at the bottom of the tank, and this part of the residual liquid needs to be discharged through the drain valve at the bottom.

Emulsion Pump

There are basically two types of emulsion pumps for emulsified asphalt equipment on the market, gear pumps or centrifugal pumps. The gear pump can only drain the liquid inside the pump through the connecting flange of the pipeline. The centrifugal pump discharges sewage through its own sewage outlet.

The first 4 items with common sense will basically be empty, and the latter will focus on the latter.

Colloid Mill

Emulsion or water will remain inside the colloid mill. The gap between the rotor and stator of the colloid mill is within 1mm, and a little residual water will cause frostbite accidents. The residue in the colloid mill can be drained by loosening the connecting bolts of the finished pipe.

Heat Exchanger

The heat exchanger in the emulsified asphalt equipment needs to be evacuated for both cold and hot media.

Valve

This is the key point. The valve must be opened when draining the water or emulsion pipeline. Water in the valve or vacuum caused by the closing of the valve, failure to remove the liquid in the pump and pipeline will cause a burst accident.

Air pump

Many emulsified asphalt equipment uses pneumatic valves, so there will be an air pump. Water in the air will become water and exist in the air tank after compression. To prevent freezing in winter, release this part of the water.

Cooling water for colloid mills. Many colloid mills use mechanical seals, so cooling water is used. This part of the cooling water must be released.

Other places where water may exist.

The heat transfer oil pipeline will not solidify in winter and does not need to be emptied.

Asphalt will solidify in winter, but the volume will not increase during the solidification process and does not need to be emptied.
